Softly, now, the dust
begins to quake;
Grasses, leaves, new buds stir;
The air shimmers, like heat,
with the question
that has dared to rise:
Could it be -?
Could he -?
The breath of creation holds,
a strain of silence:
could he be -?
The skies hush the winds:
Quiet! Let us listen!
Stars turn their points.
The sun swells.
All the colors and
all the planets gather.
Hush!
Listen!
Something comes!
Creation hopes
what man still despairs.
Rocks tremble.
Trees bend close.
A pulse!
The heartbeat of earth
quickens and skips -
Light!
There is that first light again,
as it was in the beginning -
Yes! Yes!
He is!
Yes!
Oh, the darkness has broken!
A great cry from the universe:
We feel his feet upon us again!
We feel his lungs breathing again!
He is here!
We hold him again!
He is alive!
He is alive!
He is alive!
Happy blessed Easter! May the joy of our risen Jesus fill your hearts.
